Besides Rusto, none of you know this, but I'm pretty much 90% of the way through a deal for a 944 turbo and an E36 M3 from the same seller. His dad sold him the cars to buy a much more DC commute friendly car (GTR), but the son doesn't know how to drive stick so his dad convinced him to sell to me. We talked, agreed on a (great) price, and now he's having second thoughts.

"I don't have the time to learn how to drive a stick... buuuut maybe it would be smart to keep these around in case I ever do find time!"

It's almost like he doesn't want to sell just because his dad wants him to. I remember when I behaved like that, and then I turned 14.

Lol, both of those are one and two of the list of cars I want.

I'm really only super interested in this because of how good of a deal it'll be. I'd be fine with just having one of these, I'd be REALLY happy honestly.

If this continues for another week I'm just gonna back out of it and look for a n/a 944 or an E36 M3.

That happened to me when I bought my car. Fortunately, the seller came to his senses.

1. Kid is a dipshit for selling those cars.
2. Kid is a dipshit for jerking you around.

Show up to his house with $100 bills and stick them in his hand, that has the tendency to change people's minds.

I wouldn't sell them if I had them, but I'm a car guy and I can drive stick. This guy is neither.

I told him I have cash in hand. $100 bills. I told him to call me when he makes up his mind, and he calls me daily telling me he's still thinking about it.

We're in Northern Virginia btw.

His dad is a really cool guy. Cars weren't even for sale, I ran into him at a gas station with his new GTR and he took me for a quick ride. I asked about his 944 and M3 and told me he sold them to his son and he could try to convince him to sell to me.

Damn this kid is annoying...

I have no problem with him keeping them, it's just kind of annoying after we spent time going back and forth.

He also won't give me a straight answer on whether or not he wants to keep them or not.

Yes for the 944, no for the E36. It's Avus blue, which is closer to Lemans blue, which I absolutely prefer.

Haha no one! That reminds me of this really funny story. A friend of mine was selling his moms new-ish Lexus ES350 and this guy offered him $500 below his asking price + a dinner for 2 at this steak house in DC. The bill came out to like $350 with the tip so it wasn't that bad of a deal!

i drive a 3 series, learned to drive waaaay back in my moms minivan.

It's gonna be around 2.5 hours of seat time total, and it's city driving which is really the only reason I'm a little worried.

Sounds like you are content with either one. So, may I suggest? Ask the kid which one he wants more, then tell him you'll teach him to drive manual on that one, sell you the other. maybe get what you want and teach a young Jalop/oppo some good habits. That way we won't have to see future posts' of young and reckless asshatery.

He doesn't have half a day to learn to drive stick?

Reminds me of this kid in my neighborhood I was friends with as a teen. His dad bought him a rough classic beetle when he was 12, every birthday/xmas/etc he got new parts for it from every member of his family. They restored it together, and it was completed just before his 16th birthday. It was a top notch restoration, not an amateur one. 2 weeks after his 16th birthday he stops by in an automatic Fiero. I asked him where the beetle was, he says he sold it because he couldn't drive stick.

I was dumbfounded. You learned how to restore a car, but you can't learn to drive it?

I know it sucks, my dad was quite influential in that matter. Rusto pointed that out to me after he told me his dad was the YOLO type of person, and that's how he raised him. My dad is not. I guess it rubs off.

It's not too awful. It's a large sedan, but not that much larger. When I drove a 1976 Fleetwood, it took some getting used to. When I drove a Ford F250, it took even more getting used to. An A8L didn't and won't be hard to get used to.

RRRRGGGGGHHHHHH this car is still in my budget, and if my dad would let me use one of the garage spaces (which he said he wouldn't), then I'd buy it 100%.

I'm thinking of just buying it so he'll have no choice but to hold onto it for me.

But I don't want to disappoint him...I never do that....My sister does that enough for the both of us.

I know right? I was SO envious of the father/son bonding restoring the car. I talked about it a lot hoping my dad would do something similar since he was a car guy too. My father was a Ford guy, and bought both my older sisters 65 Ford Falcons as their first cars. I remember waking up every xmas morning as a teen and looking out the window instead of under the tree in hopes there would be a project for me. Surely he would do the same now that he has a SON that is approaching 16. Not to sound entitled but this was a time when cars from the 60's could be had for a few hundred dollars. At the least I would of expected my neighbor to keep the beetle for sentimental reasons even if he bought something else to drive.

Kinja'd!!! AM3R > E92M3

I know the feeling, when I was 14 E30's were worth nothing and I kept hoping my dad would get me a project. I was the only car guy in the family so obviously it never happened, and now E30 M3's go for crazy amounts of money.

The least he could've done was let his dad keep it. It MUST be special to him.
